Built from 2002 to 2004, the Bavaria 44 is essentially the same boat as the 2004 onwards Bavaria 46, and in fact is almost 46 ft in length! It is a high-volume cruiser aimed primarily at the charter market, although an ‘owners’ version with single, larger aft cabin was also produced. Secondhand prices for Bavarias are often distorted due to so many of these boats being ex-charter exampes, also by Bavaria’s continual lowering of new model prices – the larger Bavaria 46 was offered new at £123,000 inc VAT in early 2007. Also, boats of this size are not often used as privately owned family cruisers, due to practical considerations such as mooring charges, and hence there are fewer private buyers than for smaller sized Bavaria models, which continue to be very popular as private boats.
